The Vertom Group offers a comprehensive package of maritime services

1st of May 2020

Chartering, liner services, technical management, agencies, maritime cleaning, cable recovery: the Vertom Group offers a comprehensive package of maritime services. This makes us one of the largest shipping companies in the Netherlands active in the European coastal shipping segment.

Our maritime professionals are dedicated and always strive to find the most cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable solutions for our clients, while keeping our other stakeholders in mind. Therefore, we are a reliable and preferred partner for many leading shipping companies, charters, large industrial partners, and multinationals. CEO Arjan de Jong: “The Vertom Group is a leading provider of maritime services. That’s why we have specialized as broadly as possible.”

From Chartering Office to Comprehensive Maritime Service Provider

The Vertom Group has a long-standing history. In 1974, we started as a family business with a chartering office in the center of Rotterdam. Due to the expansion of our business activities, a relocation became necessary, and since 2003, the Vertom Group headquarters have been located in Rhoon. In the early years, our client base mainly consisted of captains with about 3 to 4 ships. Over time, they grew into shipowners, and we grew alongside them.

We acquired more own ships, more cargo contracts, port offices in other European countries, and a liner service in the Caribbean. Today, we have an extensive fleet of more than 80 owned vessels, 45 of which are under our technical management. On these ships, we are responsible for both the logistical and operational processes. Our network has also expanded far beyond national borders. Today, our divisions are located in Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

“You handle all maritime issues with one party”

Our core business is managing the logistics process of transporting cargo from A to B, or chartering. However, it is important for our customers to know that we offer much more. After all, it is easier to coordinate with one party than with five different companies. The service providers within the Vertom Group all serve the same interest and work well together. We see this, for example, in the port. When the crew of one of our own ships arranges a port call with our own ship agent, the process becomes much more efficient; the turnaround time in the port is reduced. You work with each other, not against each other.
