VERTOM PLACES ORDER FOR FOUR 10,700DWT GEARED TWEENDECKERS AT CHOWGULE SHIPYARDS

21 November 2024 – As part of its ongoing fleet renewal program and commitment to sustainable shipping, Vertom Group has placed an order for four 10,700 DWT geared tweendeckers at Chowgule Shipyards in India. This order strengthens the standing collaboration between Vertom and Chowgule focusing on innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

The contract for these four vessels has been signed on 18 November 2024 in Goa. The newly ordered vessels are designed to meet the demands of modern shipping, incorporating state-of-the-art technology for safety, crew welfare, fuel efficiency, and operational flexibility. With a deadweight of 10,700 metric tons, these vessels are equipped with geared tweendecks to maximize cargo versatility. Each vessel features a gross hold volume of 14,243 m³, offering optimal space for dry cargo, and breakbulk / project cargo operations.

Optimizing fuel efficiency by diesel-hybrid propulsion system

The 10,700 DWT geared tweendeckers will be powered by Tier III-compliant engines incorporating an SCR system to meet IMO regulations. To enhance the vessel’s versatility, the propulsion system will consist of a main engine and two diesel-electric gensets. Additionally, to optimize fuel consumption even further, a 910 kWh battery package will be integrated into the propulsion system.

Designed for operational efficiency, the engine features a fuel monitoring system with flowmeters and torque meters, enabling optimized propulsion, fuel consumption and data analytics.

Proven partnerships for innovation

The vessels will be constructed at Chowgule Shipyards, leveraging their extensive experience in delivering reliable ocean-going vessels. With over 165 ships built for international clients, Chowgule has a proven track record of excellence.

Upon delivery, the 10,700 DWT geared tweendeckers will be deployed on the Europe Caribbean Line (ECL) liner service, operated in partnership with Vertraco Shipping. This service connects Europe with the northern coast of South America, providing reliable and efficient transport solutions. The vessels are specially designed to handle a mix of breakbulk and dry bulk cargoes, ensuring maximum versatility for diverse client needs.

A strong foundation for growth

The 10,700 DWT series complements Vertom’s fleet renewal strategy. These vessels, featuring cutting-edge Diesel-Hybrid propulsion systems and advanced hull designs, are built to comply with IMO Tier III regulations. Their geared configuration allows for enhanced flexibility in handling various cargo types, facilitating to the diverse needs of Vertom’s clients.
